 For the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup™ there were Official Fan Dancers entertaining football enthusiasts from all over the world with dances choreographed especially for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany. The lucky winners were selected by a panel of leading celebrities following auditions. “We are breaking new ground with the official Fan Dancers, and would like to thank FIFA for their support in putting this idea into practice. We are sure that this program will appeal to younger soccer fans in particular and just like the successful Player Escort, will become an integral part of FIFA Tournaments” Johan Jervoe, McDonald’s Global Sports. McDonald’s South Africa will be recruiting Fan Dancers, locally known as cheerleaders, for both the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2009 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. The recruitment campaign for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 will be launched in February 2009. 16 Fan Dancers per match will be selected to perform at all the match venues before each game. These Fan Dancers will be recruited from local communities. Details of the recruitment campaign will be communicated in due course.
